“I don’t know my exact birth time… can I still find my birth tithi?”
The answer is yes. Absolutely yes.
The Moon is softer than that.
Many of us were born before digital records, in villages, at home, between naps and thunderstorms and agonizing mothers. Some birth times were written approximately. Some were remembered through stories:
“You were born after lunch.”
“Just before sunset.”
“Around the evening prayer.”
And honestly? That is beautiful.
Because lunar wisdom is not about perfection.
It is about resonance.
Why Birth Time Matters for lunar days
Your birth Lunar day (tithi) is determined by the relationship between the Sun and the Moon at the moment you were born.
Since the Moon moves continuously, a tithi can sometimes change during the day. This means that someone born at 1 PM may have a different tithi from someone born at 6 PM on the same date.
But don’t panic. You do not need perfect precision to begin exploring your lunar archetype.
The Saman Method for Unknown Birth Times
Here is the easiest and most reliable way to use our Tithi Calculator if you only know an approximate birth time.
Step 1: Choose a Realistic Time Range
Think about what you know.
Examples:
“My mother said it was early afternoon.”
“I was born sometime in the evening.”
“It was before sunrise.”
Then choose a realistic window.
Examples:
1 PM to 4 PM
6 AM to 9 AM
7 PM to 10 PM
Try to keep the range within a few hours if possible.
Step 2: Run the Calculator Twice
Run the calculator a first time using the earliest possible time.
Example: 1 PM
Then run it a second time using the latest possible time.
Example: 4 PM
Step 3: Compare the Results
If the Results Are the Same
Wonderful.
This means the Moon remained in the same Lunar day (tithi) throughout your selected time range.
You can trust that this is your birth lunar day.
The lunar current was stable.
The goddess was clear.
If the Results Are Different
This is where things become interesting.
It means you were likely born during a lunar transition, when one tithi was dissolving and another was emerging.
Rather than seeing this as confusing, we invite you to see it as sacred.
You may carry the imprint of two lunar energies.
Read both descriptions slowly.
